Association vs correlation

how can you tell if categories are associated vs correlated?

that is about to be discussed in units 2 & 3 of the cram !! stay tuned

this study guide from fiveable also describes the differences

Correlation describes linearity in AP stats.

Association just describes a relationship. Associations can be quadratic, or cubic and so on!

Yep, we will be discussing later. Just to give you some background, though, correlation is how we measure associations. This takes a numerical value between -1 and 1, with values closer to -1 and 1 meaning a stronger association, and the sign on the correlation describing the relationship (direct or inverse) of the data
