Can you explain all the cell cycle checkpoints? In addition to cell cycle checkpoints, how are cyclins and CDKs involved in the cell cycle?
The G1 checkpoint sees if the cell is ready to go through DNA replication and complete the cycle. If it doesn’t get a go signal at that checkpoint it goes into the G0 Phase(The non dividing phase). The G2 checkpoint sees if the cell is ready to undergo mitosis and the M phase checkpoint sees if all the chromosomes are attached to the spindle microtubules in metaphase. Cyclins and kinases combine to form CDKs and can make MPF (Mitosis promoting factor) This will allow for the cell to pass through the g2 checkpoint and undergo mitosis.
