Consolidation vs. Legitimization

What is the difference in consolidating power and legitimizating power, and what were the methods to accomplish each task?

To quote an earlier thread:

Consolidating is “getting” power, which can be physical or political, such as conquest. Consolidating can also be understood as bringing power into a central location/under a singular umbrella. So it can be changing your government style from having a bunch of sub-governors around the hinterlands to having all of the power being centralized under the singular power of one ruler.

Legitimization is once you have the power, “keeping” power, via deeds or ideology, such as works of art.
