Diction

Could you explain the different types of diction we might see on a passage and how it relates to the audience’s purpose?

Hi there! There aren’t specific “kinds” of diction. When we use the term “diction”, it describes the author’s overall word choice, and is therefore kind of similar to the idea of tone. If the overall word choice throughout an essay really adds to their tone, purpose, rhetorical strategy, etc. we can talk about their specific diction. Does this help?
