Endocytosis is when the cell membrane pinches in to surround incoming molecules. The barrier (called vesicle) then separates completely from the cell membrane and delivers the molecules to its destination. Exocytosis is the exact opposite–a vesicle reconnects to the cell membrane to bring the molecules outside the cell.
