Gene linkage and mapping

Can someone explain gene linkage and mapping to me? How to determine where genes are on a chromosome? Thank you!!

@francescortuna_56385
Genetic linkage is the tendency of genes that are close together on a chromosome to be inherited together.
Gene mapping is when you place certain parts of a chromosome on a “number line” based on the number of base pairs that they would give you.

This is a picture I just found, hopefully it explains a bit more in detail.

This is a Bozeman Science video that also might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU44tR0hJ8A

Hope this helps :slight_smile:
