How do you identify the purpose of a control for a certain situation?
You want to attribute the results to a single variable. To know X causes/affect Y we need to only have X and Y in our experiment. If we have a Z affecting Y we can’t say much about the relationship between X and Y which is our goal. To ensure that we can determine causality and make a conclusions control allows us to measure the effects of 1 variable.
