Latent Learning

What should I know about latent learning?

The idea that learning can occur unintentionally and then emerge later (or not at all) after the exposure to experience. Tolman’s work supported this, which went against Skinner’s idea that all learning had to be a result of intentional training.

It was found by Tolman with his rats in a maze experiment but the application which is more important is that we can learn things subconsciously when there is no motivating stimulus, and then finally apply it rapidly when there is.
