Monroe Doctrine

What does this mean?

This feels like an APUSH topic but… The monroe doctrine was essentially American foreign policy that opposed European nations colonizing Latin and South America.

The Monroe Doctrine was issued by US President Monroe which basically said “Europe, y’all lost your colonies in Latin America. GO HOME” lol :joy: it was really establishing what the USA would use in their imperialism .

More of an APUSH question, but consider this for World:

(December 1823) the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs.

Basically the US was going to keep European colonizing powers out of the brand-new independent nations in what was the former European Empires in the western hemisphere (colonies that France & Spain once held).

That’s a wonderful way to put it harrison :joy:
