You said not to quote directly in the DBQ. All year, I have been told to quote documents directly, and have practiced like this. Why is it so bad so quote the documents directly?
A couple of reasons: first, it doesn’t always show that you understand the content of the documents and can effectively summarize them, and, second, it wastes time - you aren’t writing a formal essay, and the content is the important part, and copying down a quote wastes time.
