Standard Deviation

I know how to calculate SD but how do I interpret it in the context of a problem?

Here’s an example… let’s say that we are looking at data for the number of seeds on a strawberry. If the question is:
THe standard deviation of number of seeds on a strawberry in this sample is 7.8. Explain how this value summarizes the variability in the sample data.

The correct answer to this question would be:
In this sample data, the typical number of seeds on a strawberry varies 7.8 seeds away from the mean.

Remember you will just mirror this format based on the question you’re given, but it’s important to include the context and units of the problem.
