Strategies and devices

they are using/naming specific devices, but I’ve learned to start out with the strategy and use devices to support them in each paragraph. Is that okay?

Absolutely! The College Board no longer requires specific names for devices, and the new standards specifically ask for recognition of strategies and the steps that are taken to promote those strategies.

To add onto this, it is often a very high-level approach to organize a body paragraph around the overall strategy and then pinpoint specific devices that work in unison with this strategy. Go for it!
