Can someone explain the difference between structuralism and functionalism?
Structuralism comes first and it’s like looking at all the pieces that make up the mind/consciousness. It would be like taking apart a cars engine and looking at all the different parts laid out and trying to figure out how that makes the car go.
Functionalism comes next and it’s looking at what all the individual pieces do together. So putting the engine together and seeing how all the pieces work or function together.
Structuralism is basically the fact that our actions and behavior belong to a greater structure that comprises of different parts. Functionalism is basically looking at the greater function of the brain.
