Can someone explain me what caused the taiping rebellion and what it accomplished?
Perhaps one of the most interesting rebellions ever. A failed civil servant, someone who failed the civil servant exam in China picks up a Chinese translation of the Christian Bible on his way out of Beijing. Reads it. Has a case of intense hemorrhagic fever which he survives, but has visions of Jesus Christ. Decides to liberate China from the Manchu of the Qing dynasty, under the banner of creating a Christian kingdom in China. he gained support from non Manchu people oh, those who are suffering from drought, and the disaffected. this Rebellion severely weakens the Qing Dynasty and prevents them from effectively responding to European imperialism. This occurred around the 1840s
