my teacher stated that we are not to use terms like “audience,” “speaker,” and “purpose” because they are not sophisticated. in your experience, has using those terms impacted your score?

You don’t necessarily have to use any of these terms to express your point regarding them. For example, you may say “Lincoln surprised his audience with a short speech in which he stresses the importance of reunifying the North and the South after the Civil War.” That is the purpose of his essay, but you don’t have to explicitly say “His purpose is…”
