Testing biodiversity?

what are some tests that you could conduct to test the biodiversity in an ecosystem? how would you test species richness/species evenness and that sort of thing?

This is usually done through experimentation. A scientist would look at a population, determine the different species, and count how many organisms from each species live in an ecosystem. From there, species evenness would correlate with each species being represented equally. Species richness would correlate with how many species are represented in a population. Ultimately, good biodiversity in an ecosystem would show species richness and evenness.
