Thermal Inversion

Can you explain the process of thermal inversion and especially how it affects cities? And how does depend on where you live - like is thermal inversion more likely near oceans? Also what are some tips for the experimental design frq?

Thermal inversion is when there is warm layer that traps a cool layer underneath it. This makes all the pollutants trapped close to the ground and can lead to the creation of photo chemical smog. It usually happens in mountainous areas.
