Ok, for the purpose of tomorrow’s DBQ, any of these topics would be included in the documents or historical background.

However: maroon societies - bands of communities or fugitive slaves who had succeeded in establishing a society of their own in some remote areas, where they could not easily be surprised by soldiers or slave catchers.

Sepoy rebellion – widespread, but unsuccessful, rebellions in India against the British rulers. mid 1800s.

Ashanti wars - also mid-1800s. West Africa coast (“Gold Coast”) rebelling against … you guessed it…the British. Also unsuccessful in defeating the British.

Ghost dance – Native North American. Mid 1800s. performance of a ritual dance that, it was believed, would drive away white people and restore the traditional lands and way of life.
