What is aboslute and difference threshold
Hi @Sofia3! Absolute threshold is what you detect 50% of the time. Difference threshold is the ability to determine a difference between stimuli 50% of the time. I like to think about going to the paint store and trying to tell the difference between Eggshell White and French Vanilla White. I usually can’t tell the difference because it’s below my difference threshold.
thank you so much!
Absolute threshold is when you are able to detect a stimulus, while difference threshold is being able to detect a change in a stimulus. So if you put sugar into a glass of water, when you can first taste the sugar, it crosses your absolute threshold. When you add more, the difference threshold is crossed when you can detect that you have added more sugar.
