The restoration Was the removal of the military government of the Shogun and the return of political power to the emperor of Japan. This also included an end to the feudal system under which the samurai had operated.
this was kicked off by the American captain Matthew Perry visiting Japan in the 1860s. and most historians believe led to the modernization and industrialization of Japan.

The Meiji Restoration was an event in Japanese history (late 1860s) that led to with the overthrow of the Shogunate, or military government, that had ruled Japan for the last two hundred years or so. It’s associated with the ear of Japanese westernization that followed afterwards, in which Japan went from an isolated nation to an imperial power.
