When to use a complement?

Hi there! When using binomial and geometric probability, when do you use the probability, and when do you us the complement of the probability? Is it when X is less than or when X is greater than? Thank you!

If you’re asked P(X) but it is hard to find then you can find P(Not X) or P(Complement of X) and subtract that from 1 to find P(X).
